Toyota International Teacher Award
In April, 2009 I traveled with a delegation of 24 other United States
educators to Costa Rica where we gathered with scientists and
educators to study many important environmental issues. In addition to
touring the rainforest we climbed a lava flow on an active volcano,
zip-lined through the forest canopy and visited Costa Rican schools
and discuss educational methods we can use to introduce
environmental stewardship into the lesson plans of all subjects.
The Balance of Nature.
The Balance of Nature will be a series of classroom projects in all
subject areas that address environmental stewardship in a way that
offers relevant and practical applications of their core curriculum. The
projects will also include the creation of mobile sculptures which will
serve as kinetic metaphors of The Balance of Nature.
